Mary Simons has served as the Executive Director/ CEO at Open Doors Homeless Coalition on the Mississippi Gulf Coast since 2013. Open Doors Homeless Coalition leads 50 member agencies to prevent, reduce, and ultimately end homelessness on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The agency manages the HMIS system, the Coordinated Entry system, Planning for the Continuum of Care, and administers several housing programs.
Mary earned her Master of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Marriage and Family Therapy with a concentration in systems in 1998. She worked for the Tennessee Department of Mental Health in partnership with the AIM Center in Chattanooga, TN from 2001-2003 to develop 1000 housing opportunities for persons with mental illness. She was an independent consultant from 2004-2013 and assisted nonprofits, housing developers, and government entities to partner effectively to create solutions for vulnerable populations.
In 2015, she and the team on the Mississippi Gulf Coast functionally ended homelessness among veterans. The community has sustained the progress for three years and are now focusing on ending homelessness for all.
